Welcome to SMN Drama

Welcome to the Shawnee Mission North high school theatre program.  Soon you will become very familiar with the facilities, faculty and opportunities for involvement.  With so many productions and activities, becoming involved may seem a little intimidating at first.  This website will help answer questions and show how easy it is to become a part of the drama program.  You are strongly encouraged to be a part of North theatre arts.  Whether your participation in drama is on-stage, backstage, in class, or in the audience, the SM North drama department would be happy to have you.

The Shawnee Mission School District mandates that high schools produce three shows each year.  During the 2014-2015 school year, Shawnee Mission North will stage fourteen different productions.  We divide our theatre schedule into three seasons; fall, winter and spring.  We call the three mandated shows our "mainstages", this year they are a chilling play entitled Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in the fall,  Oliver!, the musical in the winter and 13 a new musical in the spring.  Each North student will receive one free ticket to each of our three mainstage shows. Tickets for the general public can be purchased at the door the evening of the show.  We charge $10.00 a ticket for mainstage musicals, and $8.00 a ticket for mainstage non-musicals.  Accompanying our three mainstage shows we'll also have several additional shows throughout the school year.  We call these additional shows our "lab plays".  Tickets for our lab plays, A.R.T. and Rep. productions are $5.00 for non-musicals, and $8.00 for musicals.  We'll start the year with two nights of student written Original One Acts in the fall.  In the winter we'll present a student directed, small musical. In the spring we'll be performing famous scenes from the writings of William Shakespeare.  In addition to all of these we also have highly entertaining Rep. Theatre and A.R.T. shows containing original writing, sketch comedy and improv. sprinkled in throughout the year. Make sure to check our season poster for the dates.

Everyone attending North and living in the surrounding community is invited and encouraged to attend.  Curtain for the evening shows is 7 p.m., matinees begin at 2 p.m.
